FALL / SPRING PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS Academics:  Language and culture coursework at ELE are available during the Fall and Spring terms.  Students can also enroll in the Academic year or combine one of these terms with an intensive summer session.

  • Students normally enroll in up to five courses from the ELE offering during the fall and spring terms.  All students are required to enroll in at least one Spanish language course at ELE (Written Expression, Oral Expression, Vocabulary & Composition).
  • All students enroll in a mandatory intercultural communication course taught by local GEO faculty.
  • During the Spring only,  eligible students may enroll in a combination of ELE and direct enrolment courses offered by one of the University’s undergraduate degree programs.

Courses:  Most courses are offered all terms in both levels, except for the following:  Business Spanish (advanced level – fall/spring),  Spanish Cinema (advanced level, fall only),  Spanish Society & Culture (spring only,  intermediate & advanced).

 

 

Levels:  Intermediate (A2-B1)  and Advanced (B2-C1)

Location & Times:

  • ELE courses are held at La Casa de las Lenguas at the University’s Humanities Campus.  Exclusive GEO  courses are either held on campus or at the GEO Oviedo Center.
  • Classes run M-F from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at ELE with the intercultural and visiting faculty courses in the afternoons.
  • Direct enrollment courses are held at one of the various University of campuses in Oviedo, including the Humanities Campus.  Please be aware that there may be scheduling conflicts between these courses and those offered at ELE.  Some direct enrollment courses have pre-requisites or involve traveling across the city to another University of Oviedo campus.  Students usually enroll in 2-3 ELE courses + 1-2 direct enrolment courses.

Accommodations:  Homestays throughout Oviedo Extracurricular Activities:  Local visits,  field trips within Asturias and Two overnight excursions to other regions of Asturias in conjunction with the coursework.  All guided by Laura Barrientos (art historian) and field staff.  Click here for more information about program activities during the fall and spring terms.
