With the exception of exclusive GEO classes such as the Intercultural course or other courses that are offered ocassionally by visiting faculty members ew exceptions,  all coursework conducted on the Oviedo program is offered through the University of Oviedo.

La Casa de las Lenguas and ELE:

Most students enrollm in the  Curso de Lengua y Cultura Españolas para Extranjeros (ELE) offered throgh the University’s special language institute La Casa de las Lenguas.   ELE offers courses in Spanish language and culture specifically designed for non-native speakers.    ELE receives  international students from the US, European countries , the Middle East, Asia and Africa.  During the fall and spring terms, there are close to 150 students enrolled at ELE.         La Casa de las Lenguas also offers non-degree bearing modern language courses in the afternoon  that are open to the University students as well as the general  public.    The University of Oviedo is a popular destination of European University exchange students.  Every academic year there are close to 400 Erasmus enrolled at the Univeristy.

OVIEDO SPRING SEMESTER COURSEWORK 2017-2018(1)

ELE coursework has been approved for credit by GEO.    Syllabi are available upon request from GEO or the Oviedo Site Director.

Direct Enrolment at the University of Oviedo.

Qualified GEO students may also enroll directly in single courses offered though one of the University of Oviedo’s undergraduate programs.  At present and due to calendar reasons,  this option is only available during the spring semester.     The University of Oviedo has several bilingual degree programs.  As a result it is possible to take courses in both English and Spanish.     We will soon be proving a list similar to the ones available for ELE  to help you navigate through the direct enrolement courses.

Students usually take a combination of ELE and Direct enrolment courses.  If you are interested in taking regular coursework at the University of Oviedo you should contact the Site Director as soon as possible so that she can help you  plan and get the information you need.   Actual registration takes place after you arrive in Oviedo.  The University of Oviedo’s second semester begins at the end of January so you will have a few weeks after the Spring term begins to get settled and make your course selection.
