The Oviedo program provides extensive support and mentorship to our students.  Our goal is to help you make the most of your experience and to assist you to develop your Spanish as you learn about the context and the culture in which it is spoken.   We believe this is beneficial to your adaptation as well as to community that has welcomed you.

We work very hard to help students to integrate in the local community.  We achieve this with the help of an excellent network of host families and through the efforts of our host family coordinator in making careful placements, monitoring the stay and mediating between the parties when problems arise.  It is for this reason that we seldom have to move a student and that these evaluate their families so highly.

We also offer student many opportunities to connect with the locals by matching them with language partners, assisting them with  internship and service learning placements in schools and local NGO’s.  We also organize and collaborate with other organizations to provide  many extracurricular and experiential activities  that enhance the coursework and are also a lot of fun.   We work closely with ESN, an association run by Spanish students who have studied abroad and who organize many cultural, sports, free time activities and low cost excursions for foreign students at the University.   Over 400 ERASMUS (European exchange) students attend the University of Oviedo each year.

The Oviedo staff  is ready to assist students in academic, medical,  personal matters or inculturation problems.
