AHA Conversation Partner program (English-Spanish)

We have our own database of native Spanish speakers who are available for conversation this term.  We ask both the Spanish as well as American candidates to fill out a questionnaire that seeks information such as language level, occupation/studies, hobbies & interests, self description and times available for conversation and contact information. With all this information, we make every effort to match partners.  Our program is informal in that it allows complete freedom to the partners to determine the frequency, modality and content of their meetings.  Many Spanish students from the Asturias School of Tourism,  an affiliate institution of the University of Oviedo,  also participate in our conversation program.  Fifty to seventy-five percent of our students have one or more conversation parters and rate the program very highly.

German,  Italian and French Language partners also available

As there is a great deal of interest in the English language, it is also possible for GEO  students who are also studying German/French or Italian to converse with foreign students of these nationalities while they are in Oviedo.

The University of Oviedo “TANDEM” program:

Through this tandem program two speakers of different mother tongues collaborate to improve their knowledge of their respective language and culture.  This program starts at the beginning of November.  There will be a person in charge of helping the participants as well as of supervising the activities in case you want to obtain a certificate of participation.  This program is availabe for language practice between English/German/French/Italian and language partners.

The University of Oviedo A-DUO program:

TheUniversity ofOviedo offers this program which consists of putting the foreign student in touch with a Spanish student attending the same campus.  The Spanish student would serve as a type of mentor, helping the foreign student integrate into university and city life, while at the same time, provide both the opportunity to practice the language and learn about each other’s culture.
