The Oviedo program firmly believes that there is no better way to facilitate the student’s linguistic and cultural immersion than by living with Spanish host families.
Through  screening, careful placement and monitoring, and mediation in conflict resolution,  we strive to make this a positive experience for all.
While living with a family can sometimes  be one of the most challenging experiences you will have here,  it is also among the most rewarding that students report.  There is no better way to learn about the daily life in this small corner of Spain, practice the language and integrate in the community than by living with Spanish hosts.
We work with an excellent network of  “tried and true” families who hosted many generations of GEO students.  We try our best to accommodate your special needs and preferences  and really do our homework in matching each student with the most compatible family.
With the help of our host family coordinator,  the insights you will learn about Spanish  and Asturian culture during orientation and  the intercultural awareness class (fall & spring only), and a good attitude on your part,  your experience is sure to be positive.  Many students regard their homestay as one of the most rewarding aspects of studying abroad. We hope you will too!
Students enrolled in the Fall and Spring Semesters are housed in Homestays throughtout Oviedo.

Summer programs have the option of staying in a Residence hall or with a Spanish family.
